Super CPA: Secrets of the Chartered Public Accountants

Select "Tutorial" to get an interactive tutorial.

Click "Standard" or "Advanced" to actually play.

There are debug features at the top that you won't see in the completed game. Scoring will definitely change. The menu is a placeholder.

How to play the game

Click "Tutorial" to get an interactive tutorial. That should guide you enough that you can play the actual game.

I like reading and hate interactive tutorials

The object is use the hand to make groups (of at least 2) of the same digit or ascending sequences (of at least 3 numbers).

To make it easier to make a hand the player can add 2 cards together. The two cards are removed and the sum of the two cards is returned. If the result is less than 10 they will only get one card back. If the result is greater than 10, they will get two cards back and have the same hand size. This can be done multiple times, as long as the player has at least 2 cards lefts. There is nothing stopping the player from taking a high value trick and breaking it with the addition operator to get a low value trick. The player has to maintain awareness.

Try the tutorial version of the game first. This will teach you how to interact and what the purpose of the game is (instead of reading this). Then try the "Normal" version. The "Advanced" version (5-digits) has more combinations of things you should have done but higher scores.

The receipt to the left will show you 3 columns per row: the initial value, any intermediate values and what you claimed, and either a star if you got the best possible or the intermediate values and what you should have claimed to get the best.

  • The "Standard" version lets you make anything with 2, 3, or 4 cards.
  • The "Advanced" version lets you make up to 5 digit long tricks.

Some things to keep in mind

  • You don't need to use all the numbers!
    • 1 2 3 5 is a run of 3. Just select 1, 2, and 3 and press the pair button. The 5 is ignored.
  • Groups are by digit (0-9) but sequences are by number. That is 7 8 9 is 3 numbers but so is 8 9 10.
  • The order they are displayed doesn't matter.
    • 3 1 2 is the same as 1 2 3: both are a run of 3.
  • If you click a button which is invalid you get a red LED.
    • If you get 3 LEDs lit, the hand you are on fails and you get a strike.
  • If you can't make a trick, press the red button.
    • If there was an easy trick you get a strike.
  • 3 strikes and you lose the game.
  • You only have a couple of minutes.
    • This time will vary in the full game.

About the development of this game

This is based on a game I play while walking places. I take the numbers on car license plates and try make a "poker hand" out of them. The main different between the games is you can lose this one. I have never lost the version I play while walking.

All art and sound for the game is human made (by me). I photographed the card stock used for the machine and main menu with my own fingers and did the design for the machine in the scene files and recorded the keyclicks, editing the timing. I made the beep and ding sounds with sox (the Sound eXchange tool). The rattle noises were a spool of lead solder from a nearby desk. The mumbling in the tutorial is also me; I made some weird noises and sliced chunks out of the sound file and the game puts them together in a random order.

Still to come

  • story mode
  • endless mode
  • bonuses
  • balancing

That means characters, plots, potential twists and animations still need to be written, developed, twirled, and done respectively. This may take some time.

Support, support, support. Yes, I'm sorry, fellow from discord. This does nothing.

But I'm impressed on the complicated stuff you've created here
